Google Has Expanded Into Many Areas To Exploit Many New Advertising Opportunities - 14/2/2007
Google is first and foremost a search engine. But using their huge resources they have expanded into many other areas and new services. It seems that all these areas have then taken advantage of advertsing to the user of the service. Many of them use the Adwords system.
Gmail, Google's free webmail service displays ads by each email. These will be related to the email you are reading. Gmail does this by picking keywords from the body of the text of your email. This is an automated system and works in the same way Adsense.
Adsense is another extension of Adwords. Adsense displays ads on other peoples websites. Webmasters join the adsense program and insert a piece of code on their webpages. This then displays ads based on keywords picked from the content of the site. Adsense member make a percentage of every click on an ad on their site.
Adwords ads ars also displayed on Froogle and many other websites in the Google network.
But in addition to these ads Google shows ads on Google Earth, Google Maps and many other more obscure Google services. There are rumours that Google intends to expand it's advertising to many more or it's services that at present do not show ads. This includes ingame ads on the internet. Which they have recently shown an interest in.
With such a wide reaching audience and enourmous resources Google is taking over from traditional forms of advertsing, making websites and ecommerce the future of marketing and selling products and services to the whole world.
There is even a whole industry which is 80% orientated at getting websites indexed on Google's network of search engines around the world. This industry is called search engine marketing and breaks down into two significant parts. Pay per click marketing and search engine optimisation.
