Interview With Chang Anderson - Part 2 - 14/2/2007

How do you enable a client to maintain their online store once it's been completed?
Since 1999 virtually all the websites we have designed have included a content management system. This is a standard with website designers today. All our ecommerce sites have product editors allowing clients to edit prices. They can easily take an item out of stock. They can also remove a single colour or size of item out of stock. We also build secure card management systems and sales reports that show them easily which products are selling and the total value of sales.

What's the best piece of advice you can give to someone looking to build their first online store?
Make sure you get paid a proper fee for the job. Make sure you pay a proper fee if you are the store owner. Building an online shop is the same as building and fitting out a shop in real life. Making the shop easy to find is just as important, so you need search engine optimisation. Making it obvious what you are selling when somebody looks in the window is also important as is making it easy to get in and find the products. You should also ensure that orders are processed quickly and easily and that you always know who your customers are and what their requirements are. All top website designers realise that this is essential.

How hard is to implement search engine optimisation into your sites?
Our sites are built with a search engine friendly architecture so that we or any search engine optimisation company can easily optimise our websites to get listed in the search engines. We our selves optimise websites and it is a big part of what we do. We love the challenge of getting a website indexed on the search engines under competitive keywords.
